How I Celebrate More: Sip & See Champagne Bar

by Katie Cooper

In May of this year, my husband and I welcomed our first child and it's been a joyful, whirlwind experience since! To celebrate our baby's arrival, we decided to host a Sip & See event to give our friends and family a chance to meet our little guy. A champagne bar is a fun, easy and delicious entertaining setup. Here's what we did:

Gloria Ferrer Sonoma Brut

We went with one variety of wine for the event to make things easy and to not get too complicated with what we were offering our guests. This is a perfect sparkling wine for a champagne bar. It's dry so it mixes well with the variety of juices we had to offer, and it's great on it's own as well. All of our guests loved this pick.

With plenty of glassware available (because I really didn't want to serve good sparkling wine in a paper or plastic cup), we set up the bar with a self-serve method. That gave us the opportunity to visit with guests and not be busy the entire time pouring drinks. We offered 3 juices for mixing: traditional orange juice for a mimosa, along with cranberry and pineapple juices. Some people mixed the juices for a tasty, unexpected cocktail!

Of course we needed some food to go along with our sparkling wine so we decided to offer a variety of light, easy-to-assemble foods:

  • Cupcakes from local favorite, Cupcakes on Kavanaugh (because sparkling wine + cupcakes are just too fun!)

  • Marinated Pasta Salad with Shrimp & Chicken

  • Arkansas Watermelon

  • Cheese Variety served with Crackers & Crostinis

A very unexpected pairing option with sparkling wine is fried chicken. It pairs perfectly with bubbles and is oh so good. Colonial chef Aaron Walters shares his (not so secret) recipe here for yummy fried chicken tenders you can make right at home!

Since having the baby, my schedule has become quite full these days. I take advantage of convenience when I can get it and Colonial makes it super easy for me to shop! Their easy to use online ordering system takes a lot of the stress out of planning for an event. You just pick out what you want, add it to your cart and it's ready for pick up at the store. This saves so much time and, let's face it, we don't have much of that now with a baby added to the mix!

Thank you to all of our friends and family for showering us with gifts and, most important, great memories. Cheers to baby Cooper!
