JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Sales and Operations Associate

Successful candidates are introduced to the customs and practices of Colonial Wines & Spirits through a welcome orientation followed by in-depth training. Key components start with the basics and continue through the nuts and bolts of the job. The goal is total understanding of all tasks and procedures, as described below. Most important is to instill the Colonial standard of excellence for customer care.

 

Colonial is open 16 hours Monday – Saturdays, including every holiday except Christmas. Must be willing to work nights and holidays.

Tasks and procedures:

  • Sales and Operations Associates report directly to the manager on duty (MOD).

  • Works directly with customers in the store and on the phone. Occasionally required to deliver to customer’s homes. 

  • Listen to customer’s needs and provide knowledgeable, fast, and friendly assistance in product selection and other information about the purchase, amounts required, for example.

  • Wedding and other function planning.

  • Use good communication skills. 

  • Assist with stocking the shelves. Move products from the warehouse and correctly price, rotate, and display shelves in an inviting, easy to shop manner. 

  • Lifting, bending and stooping is required. Most of the shift will require standing.

  • Bag and display ice.

  • The sale of alcoholic and tobacco products is heavily regulated by state, local and federal agencies. A comprehensive understanding will be taught with emphasis on compliance.

  • Operate the mPower Point of Sale machine and all associated credit card processing equipment. Understand and execute cash and check accountability procedures.

  • Work and communicate well with peers, subordinates, and management. Be a team member.

  • Assist with housekeeping.

  • Attend training. Keep abreast of trends by reading industry journals and following on-line resources. This is done in-house and on your own time as well.

  • Personal appearance and bearing.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given for a High school diploma or equivalent, or college credit or degree.

Experience in wine, liquor, beer retail, or in a hospitality industry position like bartender, waiter, sommelier.

Proven success in the ability to work well with others and a passion for providing excellent customer service in a fast paced, high stress environment.

Night Assistant Closing Supervisor

The sale of alcoholic and tobacco products is heavily regulated by state, local and federal agencies. A comprehensive understanding will be taught with emphasis on compliance.

Night assistant closing supervisor reports directly to the manager on duty (MOD).

Assist with all aspects of management and operations including:

  • Taking care of priority number one, customer service.

  • Operation and maintenance of the mPower Point of Sale (POS) equipment and software. Assist team members with issues having to do with operating POS and credit card equipment.

  • Works directly with customers in the store and on the phone. Occasionally required to deliver to customer’s homes. 

  • Listen to customer’s needs and provide knowledgeable, fast, and friendly assistance in product selection and other information about the purchase, amounts required, for example.

  • Wedding and other function planning.

  • Assure product is brought from storage areas and properly placed on shelves. Price, rotate, and display product in an inviting, easy to shop way. 

  • Assist with cash flow and accountability management.

  • Close the store.

  • Lifting, bending and stooping is required. Most of the shift will require standing.

  • Make sure ice is bagged and displayed.

  • Ensure the store and outside areas are kept clean and safe.

  • Attend training. Keep abreast of trends by reading industry journals and following on-line resources. This is done in-house and on your own time as well.

  • Report for work on time and ready to start. Be well groomed and in the correct uniform.

Qualifications

Two years’ experience in the wine, spirits, and beer business.
