Next up on my local showcase is Core Brewing from Springdale. In central Arkansas, Core has a taproom on Main Street in Little Rock. These guys have been pumping out brews since 2010, and they have recently gotten a new head brewer. Here, we’ll feature some of the new IPAs that have come out since he has begun. These new IPAs are awesome and I have been blown away by them. Core has really stepped up their game, and I recommend that you give these a try.
Albatross New England IPA
This is the first attempt at a New England IPA from Core and I really enjoy it. It pours hazy gold and you get a lot of nice hop aroma on the nose. Oats were added to give this beer a creamy mouthfeel. This one was in production before the new brewer took over but it is still a great IPA.
Beach Rat Pale Ale
This beer features a new Australian hop called the Australian Summer; it has melon and stone fruit aromas that are very prevalent on the nose. Beach Rat is probably my favorite of the new releases. I know this isn't actually an IPA but I feel like the flavor imparted by the hop profile is very reminiscent of an IPA.
Last Stage At Hawksbill
Strange name for a fantastic beer, and it’s tied for first as my favorite of Core’s new releases. This beer is a hop explosion with five pounds of Mosaic, Summer, Enigma, and Vic Secret (these guys seem to love Australian hops) per barrel. This is one for the hop heads and I highly recommend it.
Ring of Fire Double IPA
This is a pretty straightforward West Coast style double IPA. Nice hop aroma and flavor. It sits at 8.3% ABV and has a very subtle bite from the alcohol. Ring of Fire is definitely a great beer to try if you're looking for a new double IPA.
If you're already familiar with Core, you know they have a plethora of brews to choose from. If you can’t make it to their Little Rock taproom, come by Colonial and take a look at some of their other newer releases not mentioned in this blog. As always, you can follow us on UNTAPPD at Colonial Wine & Spirits to see what we have to offer and my personal UNTAPPD (jliddy09) to see what beers I've been trying lately.
