The time has finally come: fall. Now that the long, blistering days of summer have gone into dormancy, I find myself invigorated with cooler nights begging to be enjoyed with one of my favorite pastimes: cigars and beer. There is no better way to unwind after a long week or tiring day than to spark up my favorite Nicaraguan Churchill or Dominican Perfecto, complemented with a perfectly paired ale or lager. One of my favorite aspects of having a beer with my cigar is the almost unlimited combinations of flavor profiles that can be paired and interchanged. If this has piqued your interest and you think you might like pairing cigars and beer, here are a few of my personal favorite selections.
Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad/Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne Robusto
The Perdomo expresses nuances including rich tobacco flavors, hints of coffee, creamy undertones, and a subtle sweetness, almost like honey. This subtle sweetness adds the perfect compliment to the heady bourbon barrel quad that will warm you up on those cooler of autumn nights.
Sam Smith Raspberry Ale/Rocky Patel Vintage 1990
This smooth and rich flavored cigar is a blend of Dominican and Nicaraguan Ligero layered with a Honduras wrapper. The complexity of this cigar offers balance to this tart and fruity raspberry berry ale, making it a must try for adventurous flavor seekers!
New Belgium Trippel/Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story Perfecto
Medium in strength with notes of cedar, spice and leather, this cigar is the perfect accompaniment to a Belgian-style Trippel, adding complexity to this spicy and floral brew.
