Get Your Spritz On

To me, summer is all about outdoor entertaining with family and friends or simply sitting on your porch after work appreciating some lingering hours of sunshine.  I've recently adopted the Italian custom of drinking an aperitivo—aka "spritz"—before dinner, and have enjoyed it so much I've made it my go to drink for the summer!  There are tons of variations, but I'm going to share with you the original!  You can't diss a recipe that originates from the 19th century and is heavily integrated into the day-to-day of Italians! When visiting Italy you may notice lots of glasses filled with an orange fizzy drink residing on cafe tables during the early evening, this is what they're enjoying:

APEROL SPRITZ

  • 2 ounces of Aperol
  • 3 to 4 ounces of Prosecco
  • 2 ounces soda water

If you want to be traditional garnish with a skewered olive and slice of orange.
(I personally prefer just an orange slice.)

Why is this drink so great?

  1. It’s delicious, fizzy, slightly tart and slightly sweet.
  2. It helps your body digest food!  That's right; Aperol is made from herbs and roots that naturally aid digestion.
  3. It’s low in alcohol so you can enjoy more than one!!

Raise an orange glass of fizzy deliciousness to summer!
