Redbreast Aged 21 Years Single Pot Still

Redbreast 21 Year Old is the finest representation of the signature Redbreast sherry style – it is the oldest and richest expression of Redbreast ever produced.

The oldest expression from Redbreast so far, this is a combination of malted and unmalted barley matured in a mixture of bourbon barrels and first-fill oloroso casks, resulting in a rich and complex whiskey.

Awarded Irish Whiskey of the Year in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2017.

Nose: Rather closed and restrained; takes time to unravel. Tightly knit malt, lots of spiciness lurking underneath.

Palate: Mint and menthol appear from nowhere, along with a big, rich spiciness, and suddenly you realise the complexity you’re dealing with: cinnamon and clove, apple, mango, biscuit, oats, white pepper, but all well defined and distinct.

Finish: Very long lasting, with the spices and fruit all lingering. This needs time to contemplate.

I was going to say that the performance of Irish Distillers over the last couple of years marks the greatest comeback in modern times, but that honor has to go to the astonishing antics of the U.S. America's Cup sailing team. Nevertheless, the owners of Jameson have well and truly Redbreast 21 Year Oldsnatched the initiative back from its competitors, and this year it pulled off a highly surprising double. Shortly after our Irish whiskey edition, Irish Distillers held a "housewarming" and unveiled a new training center, new stills, and plans for twenty new pot still whiskeys in the next ten years. Then just a couple of weeks later, they unleashed this. In a few short years Irish whiskey has been turned on its head. The Teeling family started the revolution at Cooley, but now Irish Distillers has carved out a separate path and firmly re-established the unique, distinctive, and wonderful pot still whiskey style. Redbreast 21 year old completes a hat trick for Irish Distillers, but this is by far and away the best Irish release of the year. It's an immense whiskey: oily, spicy, rich, gloopy, and with red berries, menthol, and citrus abundant. It's complex, too, but you don't have to live with it long to realize what a gem it is. And very well judged: the oak and spice suggest that these first fill bourbon and sherry casks had reached the edge of a cliff. Sensibly the strength is bang on the money, too, and almost certainly a cask strength version would not have worked. Heaven only knows if Irish Distillers can continue to raise the bar like this. It's going to be fun watching them try though. Stunning. Again. -Dominic Roskrow

WILD TURKEY MASTER'S KEEP DECADES

This hand-selected lot of precious and rare barrels, aged between 10 and 20 years, represents the very best of two decades of bourbon making. Master Distiller Eddie Russell’s harmonious mingling of liquid results in an extraordinarily enjoyable whiskey with the finesse and deep character of older bourbon, anchored by the bold, balanced, and vibrant backbone of younger bourbon.

Nose: Fruity, spicy, floral, moderately woody.
Palate: Rich texture where deep-tilled soil, fresh-cut grass, and mushrooms meet leather and dark chocolate,
Finish: Dill, oregano, and oak. Caramel and vanilla explode over a heavy dose of cinnamon.

The Vahalla Collection

Only 17,000 of bottles of this whisky, which is the final release in Highland Park’s Valhalla Collection, will ever be released.

logo.png

The long-awaited fourth and final entry in Highland Park's The Valhalla Collection. Odin (aka 'The Furious One'); is a rich and dark whisky with the distillery's trademark sweet and gently peaty character. Aged for 16 years in a combination of first-fill sherry casks and refill hogsheads; this is one not to miss. The Powerfufl aroma suggest; molasses and chamomile tea om the palate

Wine Enthusiast 92 points - The powerful aroma suggests gingerbread, molasses and chamomile tea. On the palate, the sticky-toffee note is enveloped by an intense wallop of peat. An undercurrent of Sherry and gingerbread sweetness runs underneath the smoke, entwining into a mesquite-like smoky-sweet and spicy finish. A splash of water coaxes out a subtle bacon note. Aged 16 years, this limited edition is named for the Norse god Odin and comes packaged in a wooden frame intended to evoke the contours of a traditional Viking long ship.  (Dec 2015)

Whiskey Advocate 88 points - Odin is the fourth and final release in Highland Park’s Valhalla Collection. It has been aged in a combination of first-fill Spanish oak sherry casks and refill hogsheads, with the former predominating. The nose yields cocoa powder, insistent spice, subtle sweet smoke, heather honey, and rum-and-raisin fudge. Rich and fruity on the palate, with lively dark spices, plus treacle and peat smoke. The lingering finish initially offers smoky sherry, then dries with licorice and oak. (17,000 bottles) (Summer 2015) Reviewed by: Gavin Smith (Aug 2015)

ELIJAH CRAIG SMALL BATCH 12 YEAR OLD BARREL PROOF

124.2 PROOF STRAIGHT KENTUCKY BOURBON

barrel-proof-img.png
“The relatively lower ABV on this barrel-proof format of the stalwart Elijah Craig works wonderfully. The highlights include the fantastic nose and pleasing finish.”

At 124.2 proof, this is lowest proof release of ECBP to date.  It’s also perhaps the best.  The nose is simply fantastic with the sweet bananas fading into simple syrup and caramel, and the finish is perfect for this release.   I wish the banana scents had carried through a touch more to the palate, but it’s still an excellent sip.  The lower proof has done wonders to take this from a bit of an untamable beast to a subtle and viscous sip.

Nose: This is the first Elijah Craig variant, and one of the first Heaven Hill offerings I’ve sampled that shows a note of ripe bananas on the nose.  In fact, it’s incredibly pronounced.  Beneath that is sweet simple syrup with caramel and oak.
Palate: This batch hits the palate with warm cinnamon and gingerbread, but follows up with vanilla, oak, and a strong rye kick.
Finish:As previous batches have proven, the barrel proof versions of Elijah Craig maintain a long, satisfying finish with definite black pepper rye spices and oak tannins from the barrel.  This is no different.

GEORGE DICKEL NO.12 SOUR MASH WHISKEY

george-dickel-superior-no.-12-whisky-1.jpg

George Dickel No.12 is a simple and easy to drink whiskey. While it does not have a ton of character compared to Kentucky bourbons, this is meant to be a different animal. Dickel No. 12 works neet, or in your favorite drink!

Nose: The whiskey has a muted nose with light notes of apple cider juice and just a touch of alcohol.

Palate: This light bodied whiskey is sweet on the palate with a little bit of oak and a hit of fruitiness.

Finish: The finish is short and has notes of apple and oak and then it's done.

CELEBRATE RESPONSIBLY.

This 115 proof expression is the third release in our Old Forester Whiskey Row series and celebrates the brand’s continued distillation during Prohibition. For 13 years, the production, transport and sale of alcohol was strictly prohibited. However, Old Forester was granted a permit to continue distilling on Louisville’s Whiskey Row. The 115 proof expression represents a barrel sample that company president Owsley Brown I would have batched at the beginning of Prohibition.

Nose: An intense medley of cherry preserves, drippy caramel, dark chocolate, thickened maple, and seasoned oak.
Palate: Dark caramel coats layers of malt nuttiness and sweet graham cracker all warmed by green peppercorn and coriander spice brightened with a hint of cedar.
Finish: Tart Apple crispness gives way to a long smoky finish full of toasted marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker sweetness.

A fusion of unique and rare elements, and clouded in secrecy, Signet is the culmination of a lifetime's experience. A blend of our oldest whisky - distilled over thirty years ago when malting still occurred on site – and spirit matured in a selection of the world's finest casks, this undoubtedly is the richest whisky in our range.
Of course, whilst the exact secrets of its production are known only to our whisky creators, we can tell you that Signet's melting sweetness and explosive spiciness is, at least in part, caused by our unique roasted 'chocolate' barley malt and the 'designer casks' made bespoke for Glenmorangie from American white oak. "Great to see French casks that actually complement a whisky - so rare! An exercise in outrageously good sweet-dry balancing"

It is here, in hand selected wine barriques from Sauternes: the most famous and ancient sweet wine growing region of France, that this whisky develops its rich, spicy and dessert-like flavours. Non chill-filtered for additional aroma and mouthfeel.

Glenmorangie-logo.jpg

Nose: Lime and orange rind, sultanas and dates give a rich fruity flavour laced with tantalising spices of coconut and nutmeg.
Palate: Ginger, nutmeg and toasted almonds bring a deep, warming taste interwoven with a syrupy lemon meringue and honeycomb middle.
Finish: Long and lusciously sweet finish with lemon zest, white chocolate, vanilla and traces of ginger and nutmeg.

BUSHMILLS BLACK BUSH WHISKEY

Bushmills Black Bush Irish Whiskey combines a high amount of malt whiskey matured in former Oloroso Sherry casks, with a sweet, batch-distilled grain whiskey. This unique recipe means Black Bush has rich, fruity notes and a deep intense character, balanced by an incredibly unique smoothness. It’s best enjoyed neat, or over ice.

Nose: Heavy fruit and butterscotch: black currant, cove, with dried blueberry.
Palate: Caramel and butterscotch with red grapes and fermented grape leaves.
Finish: Wood tannins: spice with anise and clove.
